Do you know where the mind power comes from?
Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo, the former Abbot of Wat Dhammamongkol, the founder of Willpower Institute, Thailand and the master teacher of meditating instructor course recommended that the mind power comes from sleeping each day and also comes from meditating. He recommended that people can have meditation in two types as below.
- Natural meditation
- Created meditation
NATURAL MEDITATION
Where does natural meditation come from?
In our daily life, we have to sleep every day (normally about 6-8 hours at night). When we sleep our body and mind will work less and unconsciously. After a good deep sleep at night, we will have enough natural meditation. If we have enough natural meditation, we will have the result which is mind power. As we have to have the mind power to do activities during our daily life, therefore, we have to sleep at least once a day at night.
Why do we feel better after a good deep sleep each day?
From the research, The Brain’s Glymphatic System of Maiken Nedergaard, M.D., D.M.Sc. in 2012, she found that deep non-REM Sleep helps the brain to remove waste. This means our brain will be ready for various activities again and will not be too exhausted after working hard all day long.
CREATED MEDITATION
Do you know that anyone can practise meditation? No matter what age you are, you can start practising meditation.
We can let our children start practising meditation when they are just about 3 years old. Why? When your children can sit for a few minutes such as 3 to 5 minutes, it means she can practice. Or even counting numbers from 1 to 120. If they can do this consistently, they will be able to meditate longer in the next few weeks.
Whenever you concentrate on something, you are meditating. It is not a deep meditation. A trick to make an easy meditation is praying a few words in mind for a while. Those words should not have any meaning that leads you to any emotion. For example, in the Buddhist way, we pray “Buddho” in mind. Buddho means Lord Buddha. If you are not Buddhist, you can pray a word for your Lord. You may even count 1,2,3,4,…in your mind. Praying or counting numbers is a trick to lead your mind (your thinking) to focus or concentrate on only one thing. The key point is concentration will lead your mind or your thinking to be on the way of less emotional and finally non-emotional.
